Date: 14th of August, Saturday 19:30 (free)
This month’s movie will be “Before the Rain”, It is a 1994 Macedonian film starring Katrin Cartlidge, Rade Šerbedžija, Grégoire Colin, and Labina Mitevska. It was directed and written by Milčo Mančevski. The music was created by the band Anastasia.
The film is divided into three stories, all of which focus on tragic and ill-fated love affairs. In the first episode, Words, we meet Kiril, a young monk who has taken a vow of silence, who stands up for Zamira, a young Albanian girl who stands accused of murder and is on the run from a mob. For her sake, Kiril leaves the monastery and the two of them make their way through the beautiful Macedonian landscape. Unfortunately their romance is heading towards a sudden and brutal end.
Faces is set in bustling and trendy London. Anne, a beautiful picture editor, is torn between the love of her husband Nick and the attraction she feels for Aleksandar, a disillusioned war photographer. She is pulled into a series of tragic events by a shoot-out at a nearby restaurant.
The third and final story, Pictures, brings the two previous stories together. It focuses on Aleksandar’s return to Macedonia to settle. He learns that the war has divided his home village and that his Albanian neighbours are now seen as enemies. Hana, an Albanian woman he was, and apparently still is, in love with, asks him to take care of her daughter Zamira. While Aleksandar sets out to find the girl, a storm is building on the horizon, and the film returns us to its beginning.
The movie will be free to watch.

A Jewish-American blood crazed militia killing Nazis or a dark colored depiction of mysterious and gruesome events in a small north German village just before World War 1. In March Nordica’s Movie Night will show two new movies, both released in 2009, both depicting the fascism in Germany during the 20th century, but in a complete opposite manner.
The first movie of March will be the German movie “The White Ribbon” directed by the Austrian director Michael Haneke (also instructor of “The Piano Teacher”). This dark, disturbing movie goes much further than just “Germany before WWI”, it goes down deeper, searching out origins of evil, common for all sort of terror regimes that be the Nazism of Germany or among the inhabitants in small village.
In the second movie of March we will go opposite, from bleak German pessimism to fast-paced, stark colored Hollywood drama. “Inglorious Bastards” is directed by Quentin Tarantino, who have jumped the air of remorse and horror of most WWII movies and made a true “bad guys shutdown bad guys” movie.
Both movies have a duration of 2 and a half hour – so we will start at 5 pm beginning with an short introduction, at 6.30 we will have 30 minutes dinner break (Nordica have an excellent cafe) and 8.30 pm we will have an hour of discussion.
The subtitles will be in English.

The movie of this month is a warm, vivid Spanish drama, directed by the famous Pedro Almodovar. His movies are renowned for their colorfulness, irony and the strong characters. These characters are far from the ordinary, a few traits exaggerated into the absurd, but still, despite the ridicule, wonderfully, painfully alive. It is impossible not to feel with these people, as they unfold themselves on the screen.
Talk to her places us in a hospital between four persons; two women deep in coma and the men, who loves them.
Nordica’s movie night is a great opportunity for you to watch and discuss high quality movies in an international environment. It is free of charge, so please bring friends to join us!

2009 Movie Night–‘Bonnie And Clyde’

In the late sixties the American Hollywood industry was in crisis; no matter how spectacular and glamorous the settings was, how popular the actors was or the size of the budget; they just could not make people come to the cinemas. Especially the young generation was letting the well known and well used genre movies of the time down, whose polished romantic and unambiguous view of life did not seem to resonate with the younger audience. But then came Bonnie and Clyde, a road movie about two young, wild bank robbers and their staggering, but short and violent life in the crisis stricken America of the thirties, a movie which became immensely popular at its time, and was the first sprout of a new cinema tradition of America.
On Saturday night we will together see this movie trying to recognize exactly what it was that made this movie in touch with its time, and maybe try to see if it still somehow resonates with out time today. The movie night is a part of English Corner; a chance for you to
practice your English skills in an international environment. Do not miss this chance. The movie night is free of charge, and it is possible to buy dinner in Nordica’s cafe.
Movie night Saturday the 9th of May, 8 pm.

Does Death’s face variant from China to Sweden? On this month’s movie night we will show The Seventh Seal, a highly acclaimed movie (Cannes prize 1957) by the famous Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.
A crusader is returning to middle age, pest stricken Sweden and challenges Death to a game of Chess, risking life and soul in the pursuit of a knowledge, which can save him from the abyss of emptiness. In this dark and strongly symbolic movie we meet with lots of Dostoyevsky like characters, from the doubt tormented knight, his sarcastic and cynic squire, saint like misused women, prophetic acrobats to lustful simple-beings, all representing different approaches towards life and existence, but of whom all in the end must bow to Death, a knowleding his mastership.
The movie night is a part of English Corner, and is free of charge, so you will have a wonderful chance to practice your English skills. We will encourage you to stay after the movie and take part in or just listen to the highly interesting discussion afterwards. Do not miss this chance for a real mind-boggling culture meeting! So please join, all thoughts and reflections are valuable!
