A Walk Through the Park
Sidney Aelbrecht and Hanne Van Dyck are two artists living and traveling together. For three weeks they traveled through China, most of their time they spent hiking. During a three week residency at TCG Nordica they translated their experiences, each from their own point of view.
Sidney Aelbrecht combines his field recordings with musical instruments found at Nordica in an audio installation. In the studio he worked with chinese ink, starting with traditional chinese motifs and gradually founding his way to his personal language. Hanne Van Dyck researched how language is used to describe the act of traveling in social media, guidebooks and philosophical texts on traveling. She asked a local silversmith to engrave words concerning traveling on rings. She also had silver bracelets made out of three itineraries of their trip.

Artist statements
Sidney Aelbrecht( 1990, lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium) researches archetypes using painting, music and writing. His paintings show trivial and loaded objects placed in surreal environments constructed out of colourfields. These seemingly naive images reveal layers that refer to philosophy, art history, literature and personal symbolism. Through musical performances he explores the duality between intuition and the rational.
The interaction between men and nature is the focus of Hanne Van Dycks work. Using traveling as a working method, she analyses the appropriation and symbolization of nature. With an emphasis on the representation and framing of an experience, she translates this research into mixed-media installations, paintings, photographs and text, all showing the relativity of our cultural perspective.
