Four Sundays before Christmas it is the first of advent, in Scandinavian countries this is the kick-off for Christmas and the start of the holiday festivities. The word advent comes from the Latin word adventus and means arrival and represents the coming arrival of Christ and the Christmas holiday. On each of the four Sundays before Christmas we light a candle to see how we are coming closer to Christmas every week. Nowadays it is also very popular for children to have advent calendars with something to open every day until Christmas.
At Nordica we celebrate the first of advent with preparations for Christmas; we make our own Christmas decorations, we decorate the Christmas tree and we sing typical advent songs. We also give an introduction to advent and the celebrations in the Scandinavian countries around this holiday. It is a popular event for the whole family as the activities are suitable for all ages.
