A Song of Ascents- Kunming Artist’s Community

“Ascending”, or “steering”. “Songs of Ascents” refer to those songs sung by the pilgrims along with every step of their ascending for pilgrimage. It is to express the enduring and undivided obedience, patience and perseverance of the pilgrims and their faith in the truth.
“Steering” Art Ministry Group is such a team, with young artists from different specialties (music, dance, film and drama), yet having the same the affection to relentlessly pursuit after and to extol the holiness and justice. With a variety of art forms, they are trying to dialog with the world, exploring the way, the truth and the life.
Has been worked together diligently to prepare themselves for over a period of one year, “Steering” Art Ministry Group is to put on the stage a high-quality music and dance concert in June 2011. With careful musical and dancing arrangements, and on-site rehearsals, the Group has perfectly incorporated many familiar hymns and some original music with chamber music, folk music, folk songs and modern dances to interpret the pilgrims’ progress for truth with music and dance performances.
Let us with images capture every living creature, recording the very posture of the era;
Let us with drama take hold of each happiness and anger, peace and confusion;
Let us with music cross national boundaries, as well as cultural barriers;
Let us with dance stretch the wings of life, flying in the kingdom of freedom and eternity;
Let us with diverse artistic carriers touch the soul of this present age;
Let us and our works both to witness a truth that changes not:
Love never ends.

There will be a ‘Spring’ Classical Concert at Nordica on May 28 at 8pm. Featuring Belle James, a graduate from America, and a collaborative pianist for 25years. Li Qi, First Prize winner of the Violin Concerto Competition in Hungary. Li Xia Yang, a soprano, vocal Master of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and 1st prize winner of Yunnan and Beijing Vocal Competitions. We will perform pieces by Brahms(Rain Sonata), Dvorak, Schubert, Strauss, Faure, Debussy, Barber, Puccini and Mozart. Pieces in this program are standard audition repertoire entering the Masters program in Collaborative piano in America. Come and enjoy an evening of Classics from the Music Masters.

Norwegian choreographers Anne Grete Eriksen and Leif Hernes have been the leaders of DansDesign since 1978. Together they have created a great number of big performances. Their works have been described as innovative, bold and multimedial. They have choreographed pieces such as JUV, MOT HIMLALEITE, the opening and closing ceremony at the Olympic Games (1994) and DOCPLATS (2010). Anne Grete Eriksen and Leif Hernes together with DansDesign are famous for creating visually spectacular performances. They challenge the space both inside and outside and have been performing in beautiful landscape settings. Together with Norwegian composer Bjarne Kvinnsland the couple will visit Yunnan and during 12 days they will meet with local artists and experience the everyday life of the people in the province. The purpose of the visit is to connect with local artists and make plans for performances further ahead.
One part of this artistic project, which we call “Urbi et Orbi” is a workshop held at TCG Nordica in the afternoon of May 14th, 2011, 2pm. The three Norwegian artists will meet with musicians and dancers from Yunnan province and share experiences, music, dance and concepts of performance with each other. We are happy to invite anyone who is interested in viewing the exchange between the artists. As a guest you will be able to be a spectator of the workshop and discover how the communication is developing within the artistic group.
This project is supported by Areopagos, ArtsNordica, the Norwegian ministry of foreign affairs and Danse og Teatersentrum.
