Is it possible to summarize the whole history of jazz in one single concert? It’s definitely worth a try.
Despite the fact that the History of Jazz is no more than about 100 years old, it has developed into so many different styles, from early Ragtime to bebop to contemporary jazz of today. Maybe it’s because improvisation always has been a big part of it. Maybe it’s because the musicians all had one thing in common: Their own sound.
Martin has held several concerts at Nordica this past year and now he will give tribute to the ones who created and developed jazz, from the early 20th century until today. On this journey he will, along with his piano only, guide you through the music of the great masters of jazz such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and many more.
Welcome
“…it takes everything to do it. It takes real-time, no editing possible. It takes your nervous system to be on alert for every possible thing in a way that cannot be said for any other kind of music.”
Keith Jarrett about improvisation.

Movie Night- Julie & Julia

Date: 12th of March 7:30pm free entrance
Julie & Julia is a 2009 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Nora Ephron starring Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, Amy Adams, and Chris Messina. The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog that would make her a published author.
Ephron’s screenplay is adapted from two books: My Life in France, Child’s autobiography written with Alex Prud’homme, and a memoir by Julie Powell documenting online her daily experiences cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and she later began reworking that blog, The Julie/Julia Project.[2] Both of these books were written and published in the same time frame (2004–06). The film is the first major motion picture based on a blog.[3]
In March 2008, Ephron began filming with Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as Julie Powell. On July 30, 2009, the film officially premiered at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City; and, on August 7, 2009, it opened throughout North America.[4] Meryl Streep and Amy Adams previously starred together in the critically acclaimed Doubt (2008). Streep and Stanley Tucci previously starred together in the box office smash The Devil Wears Prada (2006).

THE BANYAN TREE – ART + ENCOUNTER
TCG Nordica Kunming
Friday 18 March – Friday 1 April
Opening: Friday 18 March, 8 pm
In the northern latitudes the Banyan Tree is known as “Ficus” in the flowerpot, in the tropics, he is revered, loved and feared. In the southern parts of China, the Banyan Tree had and has enormous cultural importance. After Thailand, Cambodia, Germany, Tahiti, Cook Islands, Fiji and India, Kunming is the 9th station of the worldwide touring exhibition THE BANYAN TREE. It shows paintings, sculptures, videos, photos and installations by more than 50 artists from 20 countries. The art works have been collected by the German media artist Alfred Banze. Inspired from these artworks, he organized numerous workshops for children and young people in schools, galleries, cultural centers and artists’ studios in many countries around the globe. The now displayed exhibition shows both, the original artworks and the „remixes“ by children and young people, all inspired by the Banyan Tree. BB Liu from Shanghai and Luo Fei from Kunming represent the lively Chinese art scene. Also on display are selected results from Banyan Workshop at Yunnan Art Academy in 2005.
