“A Thousand Times I Search for Her in the Crowd, and , Turning My Head, Discover Her. ”
-– My Impression of Lv Min’s Board Painting
I have noticed Lv Min’s board painting for a long time, and at that time I haven’t got to know her. Her paintings are natural, brightly- colored and mysterious, conveys her sentiments by using decisive strokes and bold colors. These works really brought a joyful surprise to me. I once exchanged one of her works by my own water- color painting, for the purpose collection.
Later she entered Yunnan Painters’ Academy, her studio was just opposite my office. Therefore, she often shown me her new paintings and requested my advice. I discovered this delicate and elegant lady actually mentally strong and very diligent. She has being studying oil painting in recent years in order to make a breakthrough and improve her painting style.
The message conveyed in her painting, the pure note made me thought of the Japanese painter To Go Sei Ji. But Lv Min adopted her objects from the lives of the minority nationalities living in Chinese frontier regions, an idyllic air of wilderness was permeated in her works, sometimes even revealed a sense of seclusion and mystery, which let me thought of Henry Rousseau. However, the idyllic aura in her paintings was romantic fairy – like maidens immersing among fresh flowers, made me associated with the dream world depicted in Chagall’s paintings. I once told her about these feelings and associations of her works, but she told me she was never under the influence of those aforementioned famous painters, she even doesn’t know some of them.
Actually, to appreciate a piece of art work is quite a personal experience, the association aroused also very private. It’s similar to the sentimental touch evoked by a person, snow, a small town, or even a sound of siren, the feeling still retains quite personal. I must emphasize that I am not making comparison for her and those painters, it’s also unnecessary to make such comparisons. Since during the aesthetic appreciation process, it’s a common practice that we recollected a long past memory, a sweet connection, or even a sentimental mood – no matter it’s a warm feeling or a melancholy emotion, gratitude or gried. It’s just the mental crash between an individual and the particular artist.
It’s universal that a piece of good art work can always enable people to relate to themselves, which I believe was also the charm of art. Indeed, Lv Min had developed her personal style of painting, at least in the artists circle of Yunnan, she created an distince style of her own.
Some people tried to persuade her to change, but this again is a quite personal subject. It will all depend on ones’ own feeling, on ones’ inner self needs, it’s a natural process. Sometimes, the answer people questing for ages, can be lacated by following ones’ intuitions. Be faithful to yourself, you will find the questing for ages, can be lacated by following ones’ intuitions. Be faithful to yourself, you will find the answer.” A Thousand Times I Search for Her in the Crowd, and , Turning My Head, Discover Her. ”
