Murmur consists of four of the most active improvising musicians from Norway. The quartet moves quickly between textural and percussive material, an agility that creates unpredictable and often entertaining improvised music. The energy can maybe be traced back to free jazz, but the music of Murmur is definitely one of today. The rich sound-palette gives them many possibilities, which they can navigate through with an effortless flow. Murmur plays either minimalism or maximalist, but moves organically and playfully between the opposites.
Klaus Ellerhusen Holm (saxophone & clarinet) Holm is from Oslo. He has released several cd’s in Norway. All of them well received among journalists and audience. His most recent project is the duo Ballrogg with bass player Roger Arntzen (In the Country).
Kim Myhr (guitar and devices) Kim Myhr studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Kim Myhr collaborates regularly with such artists as Jim Denley, Ingar Zach, Benoit Delbecq and Martin Tetrault. In January 2009 he released his duo cd with Jim Denley on the Seattle-based label either/OAR.
Martin Taxt (tuba) Studied at the Academy of Music in Oslo, and CNSMDP in Paris. Taxt has been focusing on modern improvised music for the last couple of years. His release with Tetuzi Akiyama on the Norwegian impro label SOFA, received very good critics in magazines like The Wire and Signal to Noise. He has also collaborated with Dave Douglas, Toshimaru Nakamura and Nils Wogram.
Tor Haugerud (percussion) Lives in Trondheim. Studied at the acknowledged conservatory there, where he now works as a teacher. Haugerud’s participation in ensembles like Transjoik, Trondheim Jazzorkester and BOL, has made him one of the most sought after percussionists in Norway.
