What is the essence of motion picture? In Paris 1995, 100 years after the first public film showing, the Danish dogma movement was born on red pamphlets thrown out over the assembled cinema world, a manifesto proclaiming to renew the truth in the expression as opposed to the XXXXL budget blockbusters of the 90′. The movie that we will show is the first and most acclaimed dogma movie, The Celebration (winner of the Cannes Jury price 1998), directed by Thomas Vineberg, who wrote the dogma manifesto together with another Danish director, Lars Von Trier. The movie describes very commend event in the Danish society, the celebration of a 60 years birthday, but turns the occasion into a fierce family show-down exhibiting dark family secrets. The movie is, following the dogma rules (no artificial light, setting, sound, props or camera stand), rough and unpolished, filmed by hand-held camera, as if being amateur shootings from a real family party.
The movie will be showed on the 21st of Marts, 8pm and the discussion will finish at approximately 11pm. The entrance is free, instead by contributing your own views and reflections to the discussion afterwards! We are looking forward to see you!
