Lina Persson – From Mount Huan to Sheshan Mountain Part-1

TCG Nordica had some years cooperation with Västra Götaland Regionen in this Artist-In-Residence program, we had an artist exchange project with Nordic Watercolor Museum. In this summer, we invited Swedish artist Lina Persson come to China, living and working here, she is one of the Västra Götaland’s grantees, she stayed in China for 3 months, from 2009/6/3-8/30. And then she had her installation exhibtion at TCG Nordica Gallery space.

Lina Persson – From Mount Huan to Sheshan Mountain

Lina Persson is a residence artist from Sweden invited by TCG Nordica, she lived and worked in Kunming for three months since June, she is very interested in space and astronomy, before she leaves, she presented an exhibition of her recently works made in Kunming, and many local audience were interested in, and really enjoined it.

-Pu Songling, Strange Tales from a Chinese studio

I traveled to Yuan Yang expecting the astonishing scenery of the Hani rice terraces. But wherever I went, fog and mist surrounded me. But when standing, staring into the whiteness sometimes suddenly a wind created an opening and landscape and distant villages suddenly pop up around me. I recalled the story of Mountain City by Pu Songling in which suddenly one day a whole city appear on the distant top of mount Huan, where there shouldn’t be a single house. But just as it appeared it suddenly shrinks and disappears. Songling wrote his tales in the transition between the Ming and Qing dynasty, In such chaotic times with many changes, fast development and break with traditions points of references are lost. In such mental weightlessness the rhetoric of journalism, storytelling, science and the fantastical, intertwine and the stories of contemporary life sometimes seems strange. The science fiction genre was also born out of such a time, in the British industrialization of big changes, belief in progress and future values. Now, the economy of the future is often believed to be tourism. And Yuan Yuang is also no longer only a rice farming community, the terraces has become big works of land art, monuments that thousands of tourists visit every year. Together with thousands of tourists I also went to Sheshan mountain to have the longest possible experience of a total solar eclipse. Ten minutes of total blackness. When I came back to Kunming a couple of weeks later the city had transformed; new buildings, trees and streets, where before there had only been holes in the ground.

Opera is an art form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work combining text (called a libretto) and musical score
Opera as we know it today, started in Italy since the 17th century, and then developed rapidly in western countries. It was introduced to China at the end of the 19th century, together with other various cultural forms. Afterwards, Chinese artists were moved and influenced through a number of great opera plays, such as “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Rigoletto,” “La Traviata”. As a kind of western classic music, it was slowly accepted through those influenced Chinese musicians. However, it was almost buried by modern digital pop music, together with Beijing Opera in China. As a case stand, opera became a ‘luxury spirit food flow’ within a tiny circle of musicians.

The singer Uta Runne studied classical singing and Jazz singing at the Conservatory for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main/Germany.
She expanded her versatility and her singing technique in master classes in the United States, Italy, Hungary and France. She gained international experience as a Mezzo-soprano in opera, oratorio and air as well as a Jazz singer performing all over Europe.
Her favorite is to give crossover-concerts, where she collects different styles of music and brings them together in one show. She also likes adding her flute in the jazz part.
Uta Runne is for her first time singing in China, invited by the Kunming Professional College of the Arts.
Belle James studied piano in London under Anthony Lindsay of Trinity College and John Bigg of the Royal Academy of Music. In 1988, she received a full piano scholarship to study in the States, and graduated in 1992 with Bachelors of Music Degree in Piano Performance with Honors at Northern Arizona University. She continued her studying on the Matthays Method of piano playing under Pee-Yaw Wilkes. Belle James has accompanied for choirs, singers, instrumentalists and ballet and teaches piano for over 20 years.

Brief introduction of Mr.Zhao hai biao
He has been played guitar for more then ten years and now he is working in Yunnan Institute of Art as a Music guitar of modern music professionals teacher.
2005 “China Guitar Competition” He won the Best Performance Award, Sixth in 2008 to participate in China Guitar Competition, He was appointed the judges. Held numerous solo concert.
