From the Polar to the Valley — the Swedish Sami /the Chinese Li Su exchange project
Yunnan has 25 minorities and each of them has kept their own culture very well. The Li Su is a minority living in beautiful Nujiang Valley.
The Sami is the indigenous people of Sweden. Known earlier as the Lapps, they are an ethnic minority with their own culture. Among other things, the Sami have their own language and their own traditions in handicrafts and music.
During year 2005-2006 TCG Nordica started to plan and prepare a project which involves a group of (young) people representing the Sami minority and one group representing the Li Su minority from Yunnan Province. As a first step in 2005, we invited a group of Li Su people to visit both Sweden and Norway. As a second part of exchange the Sami would come to visit China. Two minorities will have chance to live together in Nujiang Valley and Kunming city as well. The plan is also to put up an exhibition at TC/G Nordica with photos and different kind of information about the Sami minority and the Li Su minority. Of cause, you would get chance to listen to the indigenous singing- Yoik from the Sami group!
The exhibition will open on Nov 11th
